Two titans of cake, Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman, kick off a new competition in an East Coast vs. West Coast battle. With their teams of talented cake artists, they work in Jersey City, N.J., and Los Angeles to build cakes inspired by an African safari.

Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman take to the high seas to make pirate cakes. Team Duff creates a detailed ghost ship complete with special effects to make it ride the waves. Team Buddy builds an unlucky pirate being pursued by a smitten shark.

Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman face off in an architecture challenge. While Buddy travels back to ancient Egypt with his pyramids, Duff looks to his own future with a whimsical treehouse he imagines for his daughter.

For the competition finale, Buddy Valastro and Duff Goldman create monster cakes. Team Buddy works on a radioactive dinosaur, and Team Duff makes a Frankenstein's monster cake of mismatched doll parts. Then, fifty cake artists crown the season winner.
