Tracy is a successful business woman. Since she's already 30 years old, she wants to make a family. Her biological clock is continuously remembering her of her need to become a mom. But her boyfriend Grant gets scared from such a big responsibility -- the 3-year anniversary ring she gave her is just a turquoise -- and breaks up with Tracy. So, Tracy decides to get pregnant with a help of artificial impregnation...

At home, an argument with her mother makes her realize that she has nothing to be embarrassed about, so she comes forward and tells the office the truth about her artificial insemination, settling the rumors once and for all.

Tracy refuses to abandon the fast track and change to the mommy track. No matter how hard she tries, her job duties seem to be way over her limits, so her boss hires an assistant to help her while she's pregnant. Charlotte warns her the so-called assistant will stop at nothing to take her job – much like Tracy did to the woman who had her job before her. The doctor advises her to slow down at work and she refuses to, and even her mother gives an example on how some African pregnant women are put into a safety ""hut"" until their babies are born. After a talk with her predecessor, Tracy realizes the ""mommies room"" might not be such a bad idea after all. And the best of all: her assistant tried to hard to top her that now she's becoming a mommy too, thanks to a night on the hut tub with NY executives.

Dr. Bryant runs into Tracy and Charlotte at a restaurant and Charlotte shows interest on him, which concerts Tracy. She doesn't want her best friend and her gynecologist to get involved like that, so she lies to them both about each having commitment issues. Nevertheless, Charlotte and Doug engage a quick romantic/sexual thing, which ends when Tracy accidentally tells Dr. Bryant Charlotte will be breaking up with him. The three end up on non-speaking terms, but Tracy's ultrasound exam brings them close together and gives the word ""family"" a new meaning to Tracy.

Tracy compares her own family to an ant colony. The main difference between them is that on the ant colony the ants help each other, while on her family the exact opposite is what happens. Tracy's mom asks her to organize and host the Calloways anniversary party, which makes Tracy freak out because no one will help her out. Meanwhile, she tries unsuccessfully to approach her father about her pregnancy, and only gets a few words from him when she talks to him through baseball language. At the party, Tracy makes a toast thanking her parents and saying that they showed her exactly how to raise her child, and her father surprisingly listened this time.

When her brother breaks the news he's lost all her buffer, Tracy finds herself in a tough situation financially. All the baby stuff are just too expensive and the odds of getting a raise at her job aren't good. Her mother decides then to set her up with Jeff, a guy she dated years ago who now is doing very well on the dog shampoo business. The only thing is Tracy doesn't like the guy, but has second thoughts about him when he proposes to help her raise the child. Charlotte is the one who has to bring her back to the ground and open her eyes to see she can't do that to herself or the child, so Tracy turns down Jeff's offer.
