After a school party, Sephine Voorthuizen jumps from a tower, shocking the small community. Newcomer Alex is introduced as a skeptical outsider who immediately questions the community's swift judgment.

Alex officially begins her private investigation, refusing to accept the conclusion of suicide. She starts gathering information and questioning the friends and witnesses who were with Sephine on the night of the party.

Alex begins to focus on a particular individual with a dubious reputation who may have been heavily involved in the harassment against Sephine. She seeks to expose this person's "sleazy" actions.

Alex makes the shocking discovery that Sephine was not alone on the tower that night. She focuses her suspicion on the 'hands-on' teacher, Mr. Duindoorn, but her all-consuming investigation causes her to lose control of her own life, straining her new relationship with Sherry and her family.
